The Sidekick LX is Imminent!

(yeah, i know i wrote ‘eminent’ in the title before and it’s the wrong spelling, but it’s now fixed)

Way to drop the ball, Jay! I didn’t go into the detail I had wanted on my mobile phone history, and in just a couple short days, the 2009 Sidekick LX will be released upon an eager public.

I am part of that public. Horribly eager, as T-Mobile had informed me I’d be receiving it a week and a half after I’d made the pre-order, and then quickly placed in on ‘backorder’ status. After that it was a nightmare discussion with their Customer Care department, as they wouldn’t give me a straight answer about its shipping.

But all shall be well. I receive on May 12, and review on May 13. As promised, though, a few brief words on my old mobile phones.

New Sidekick LX: T-14

The world is two weeks away from seeing the new T-Mobile Sidekick LX. This new Sidekick boasts the thinnest form factor and the biggest screen resolution, as well as a free Twitter application and 3G network capability.

Needless to say I am very excited about this. Not only will I be getting a new cell phone, but it’s going to be a fucking sweet car cell phone! (I’ve taken to quoting Grandma’s Boy whenever I say “fucking sweet” about something.) For the next fourteen days (though not every day), until the release of the new Sidekick LX, I will be writing about how excited I am about this phone and things I find important in a mobile device.

Today we start with—

pending: review

Question: Who’s got two thumbs and is going to have a review of T-Mobile’s new Sidekick LX on or about May 12th?

Answer:

Uh

This guy. (You can’t see my thumbs because they’re busy holding the camera phone.)

Sidekick Coming SOON?!?!

I remember saying something about loving the Sidekick and then changing my mind when I was on a drive and didn’t have my Google Maps, but I can still be as excited as anything about the new Sidekick.

Last week, hiptop3 mentioned a May release date for this new Sidekick, citing 13 May 2009. The current Sidekicks on T-Mobile.com have also dropped in price, which means they’re trying to clear out the old, obsolete stock, to make room for the new ones.

I’m still debating between CrackBerry and Sidekick, as I just loved the damn thing’s interface, and the awesome robotic noises it made whenever I opened it. Plus, if Hiptop’s people are right in saying Google Maps on the [new] Sidekick, I’m going to definitely lean towards the new Sidekick. For sure. Most definitely.

Totally.

I guess I better make a decision soon, if I expect to be one of the first people to be awesome!

new old phone

So maybe I’m weird, but I kind of like having a phone collection. I had some of the old phones. I had started out with, I think, the bulk of a Nokia 6110i. I mean, sure it was the size of my entire face, and I had to carry it in my backpack, but I had a cell phone! I was AWESOME! What was awesomer was when I got a vibrating battery for it, so I could leave it on silent. I moved up to the 8210 and then down to the 3360, and then got my first colour-screen cell phone. It was a Motorola. I quickly returned it and switched it for a Panasonic cell phone.

It was the GD87 and it was my favorite phone up to that point. Polyphonic ringtones, a built-in digital camera; it was state of the art. I kept that for a few years until my bro turned me on to Sony Ericsson and unlocked phones.
