Perdie Across America
At 9am EDT on June 22, 2009, Matthew Perdie will begin his six-month journey across the United States of America. He will be traveling by foot, and carrying that massive American flag. Why? Because he has something he believes in. His ambition is to “bring awareness to the government’s spending and dangerous increase in power,”and to that effect, he is bringing his message to the people.
Most people will see problems with the world and be content to kick back and complain about it. Perdie isn’t so much complaining about it, and definitely not kicking back. His walk will take him from Long Island, down the East Coast, through the Deep South, and all the way to California. From there, who knows?
Last weekend was his sendoff party, at Through the Looking Glass Cafe in Jim Thorpe, PA. I listened as he talked about this passion. Listening to him, one couldn’t help but feel invigorated. His devotion to this project, his pride, and perseverance is very uplifting. And this guy knows how to succeed.
He’ll be filming his journey and posting episodes of the trip on his website, Perdie Across America. All he has is the flag on his back, a tent, and his video camera, and if you believe in his cause, you can send money to him.
Even though, by the time you read this, he’ll already be walking, you can still donate money through his website. If you have a PayPal account, he can have your donation right away. If not, I guess you’ll have to wait till he comes to town. Do you believe in his cause? If he’s coming through your neck of the woods, walk with him. Spending even a few minutes with this guy is like spending a few minutes with a dedicated individual with a goal. What do I mean, “like?” It is exactly like that, because Perdie is one dedicated individual, and he has a goal.
Perdie, I wish you the best of luck, and a safe and prosperous cross-country trek, and I hope your message is spread across hundreds, nay, thousands of people!
(Check out the Chronicles of Perdie for more information and insight into his decision to spread awareness through the country, and check out Perdie Across America for more detailed information about the walk, his mission, and what you can do to help)
Is it joke time??

Listen in on this little special non-podcast audio post while I make sure I put the site back together properly.
Bank bailout money now for car co’s?
ABC News reports that the car bailout bill thing didn’t pass the Senate. And it looks like it’s all because the UAW wouldn’t budge on any contract changes (abcnews). So they’re now considering taking our money that they set aside for the banking industry—
WHOA WAIT HOLD THE PHONE WHAT????
Did ABC News just report that the government is now going to take the money they had set aside to bail out the banks and use it for the auto industry?
Prop 8
Marriage. Say what you want about the definition of marriage; it did not begin as a way for men and women to increase the population of the world. It began as an institution to basically enslave women. (Visit the Emlen Physic Estate in Cape May for further details). What can I say; I’m a romantic. While remnants of the forced marriage era still linger (think: name changes), fortunately the institution of marriage evolved, in most countries, into a public display of love and dedication of one man and one woman from now to eternity or until the legal system deems them apart.
Some say this eternity is meant to be spent with children. There are many men and women who get married without the intention having children. Some don’t want them. Some can’t have them. Some have no desire to adopt them. And some simply can’t afford them. Fortunately for them, according to my Bible of Dictionaries, Merriam Webster does not mention children in its definition of marriage. In fact (and I believe this is recent because I look up this word often), m-w.com added same-sex marriages in its definition. This is not surprising because, if you can add bootylicious to a dictionary, is it really hard to add a little number (2) to an existing definition?
