Hating As An Artform: Facebook Apps
Facebook apps are getting ridiculous.
Farmville, Petville, Zoo-something, send a TARDIS, click here if you want to high five someone, Snow Ball Fight, etc. They are all ridiculous, and seem to solely be usable as timesinks. Which, in and of itself, is fine. But some of them are actually starting to implement pay strategies (“click here to buy more Pet $$!”), and that’s when, in my mind, the line is crossed from “oh that’s kind of cute” to “oh you can just go to hell.”
Facebook: Vanity URLs!
The hot news today is that, in an effort to be more like MySpace, Facebook is letting you have your own custom URL (source: PC Mag). Example, I am at myspace.com/bigcartoonjay. Now I can be at facebook.com/bigcartoonjay, too!
So who’s excited? Really?
Seriously. Anyone?
Hello?
3×01: Brought to you by Yoville
In this episode, Jay and Chris answer questions while Brady plays around on Facebook. We pull questions from Yahoo Answers and answer them ourselves, Brady talks about the King of Trios tournament he attended last week in Philly, and Jay talks about the movie he saw over the weekend, The Haunting in Connecticut, which Rotten Tomatoes has ranked at 20%.
My Name is Brady, and I am a Facebook Junkie
Okay, I’ll admit it. For about the first two years of its existence, my Facebook account literally held no interest for me. A zombie application and the chance that some long lost college friend might try to contact me were about the only reasons for me to log on.
And at that, it was only once about every three months.
With my discovery of the new Facebook layout (and my subsequent discovery that there are literally dozens of those I’m close to that use it instead of Myspace), I decided this Fall to give it another go. I made my page more serious, dropped the “Zombie” maiden name I had adopted, and went at it again hardcore, finding old friends and networking with wrestlers.
And I have to tell you… I like it. I find myself going on Myspace less and less.
The only question now remains… where will social networking take me next?
