At 9am EDT on June 22, 2009, Matthew Perdie will begin his six-month journey across the United States of America. He will be traveling by foot, and carrying that massive American flag. Why? Because he has something he believes in. His ambition is to “bring awareness to the government’s spending and dangerous increase in power,”and to that effect, he is bringing his message to the people.

Most people will see problems with the world and be content to kick back and complain about it. Perdie isn’t so much complaining about it, and definitely not kicking back. His walk will take him from Long Island, down the East Coast, through the Deep South,  and all the way to California. From there, who knows?

Last weekend was his sendoff party, at Through the Looking Glass Cafe in Jim Thorpe, PA. I listened as he talked about this passion. Listening to him, one couldn’t help but feel invigorated. His devotion to this project, his pride, and perseverance is very uplifting. And this guy knows how to succeed.

He’ll be filming his journey and posting episodes of the trip on his website, Perdie Across America. All he has is the flag on his back, a tent, and his video camera, and if you believe in his cause, you can send money to him.

Even though, by the time you read this, he’ll already be walking, you can still donate money through his website. If you have a PayPal account, he can have your donation right away. If not, I guess you’ll have to wait till he comes to town. Do you believe in his cause? If he’s coming through your neck of the woods, walk with him. Spending even a few minutes with this guy is like spending a few minutes with a dedicated individual with a goal. What do I mean, “like?” It is exactly like that, because Perdie is one dedicated individual, and he has a goal.

Perdie, I wish you the best of luck, and a safe and prosperous cross-country trek, and I hope your message is spread across hundreds, nay, thousands of people!

(Check out the Chronicles of Perdie for more information and insight into his decision to spread awareness through the country, and check out Perdie Across America for more detailed information about the walk, his mission, and what you can do to help)

So he’s a blatant crypto-republican who, rather than attempting to fix things in a tangible way, is just saying “I don’t like all this stuff, so I’m going to walk a lot and let you know I don’t like it”?

I mean, yes, it’s an admirable endeavor, to walk across the United States, but he’s accepting donations… that go to him? It would be more admirable, I feel, if he would donate the money to a charity, or y’know, to something that actually HELPS people. Or wait, that would go against capitalism and “his belief that Americans should demonstrate their perseverance of individual strength, responsibility, and independence.” Which is another way of saying “screw other people, why should I help them.”

    But yeah, he’s great.

Well, he HAS to survive somehow while on the road by himself. One cannot live on feet alone, and need sustinenceand the occasional shower.

So make a statement and do it without taking money from other people. He’s so against “massive government spending” and for “individual strength”, then he should put his money where his mouth is (no pun intended) and do it all with his own cash, or with actual supply donations. Taking money just means, at some point, he’s going to turn a profit from this whole venture.

Donations go to my survival and to bring AWARENESS to the cause. I am not profitting from this, everything will go towards increasing awareness, like the funding of my miniseries as I cross the country.

Also by accepting donations ithe american people will prove that we don’t need gov’t programs to pay for everything. And by the way I don’t TAKE money from people.

Nicholas, I have been on both sides of the line. I can understand why you think the capitalist system is greedy but it is not. Do some research on the history of Jamestown to get a better idea of why capitalism helps many other people. Cheers!

Excellent article jayv. Thank you good sir.
