Spider-Man 4??

I figured I’d better write this before Chris gets his grubby hands on it—or maybe he didn’t care about this enough, after the debacle that was Spider-Man 3—but according to news reports like the one at The Boston Herald and UK’s Times Online, director Sam Raimi is going at it again, with star Tobey Maguire reprising his role. It won’t be for just one sequel, but two! that’s right, Spider-Man 4 and 5 will be filmed concurrently. Quoting the Boston Herald exactly, “Tobey Maguire and ‘Spider-Man’ director Sam Rami (sic) plan to reunite for the fourth and fifth installments of Columbia Pictures’ comic book franchise – despite rumors that the actor wouldn’t play Spidey in the new flick, reports the Hollywood Reporter.” Tobey states they never wanted anyone else. And I’m sure by the time you find your way to the BH article, they will have corrected their mistake. Oh, the wonders of Internet.

On a slight tangent, at least Maguire will be able to spend time with his kid. The Times Online reports that Maguire will be taking “early mornings and evenings off,” for quality time with his 22-month old daughter.

I can’t say how excited I am about this week-old revelation, because I don’t know. On one hand, it’s Spidey. On the other hand, Eric Foreman as Venom!! I’d hate to see what atrocity Sony lets pass the green light after witnessing that epic fail.

He has a kid?! Seriously, I thought the guy was listening to Justin Timberlake on his iPod, if ya get what I’m saying.

    What about Kirsten Dunst?

  2. Jay V says:

Yeah! He’s apparently married to some chick named Jenny Meyer—no JT for him!

No word on Kirsten Dunst. According to Paste, though, early rumours had Mandy Moore attached to the name Mary Jane Watson-Parker, or whatever.

I didn’t really care about this news, Spidey 3 was FUBAR. As you guys know Spidey is one of my favorite comic book characters but the film series has gone downhill from the first one (possibly the best origin story film ever). Kirsten Dunst can’t act her way out of a paper bag and she looks like a recovering crack whore now, not exactly my vision for MJ. Of course the casting of Dunst as MJ is genius compared to the Topher Grace as Eddie Brock casting. Oh and did you know they are giving Maguire $50 million to do 4 & 5? Crazy if you ask me but then again giving Chris Tucker $25 million to be in Rush Hour 3 seemed crazy as well so Maguire seems like a bargain, being that he can actually act, compared to that deal.
