Gremlins gets a renewal

Well, isn’t this exciting? After years and years, and eventually decades, of waiting, according to the Latino Review, a new Gremlins movie is in the works. And the really exciting part about it?

IT’S IN 3-D!!!

Or so they report, as does the Buzz, who—though they have a very bland blog name—seemed to scoop Latino Review on this. Of course, MarketSaw reported the three-dimensionalness of this new movie before any of us. So it appears MarketSaw > The Buzz > Latino Review > Jay V.

Sounds fair. I’m just telling you because I’m so excited I could hum a song while purring like a kitten!

But, seriously, I hope this is a sequel to the original two. So quick are film companies to remake or reboot things (see Spider-Man 4) that they miss the chance to advance a story that was already laid before them, to enrich the lives of Billy and Kate, and to see what Papa Peltzer is up to nowadays. (I’d love to see what he’s “invented” since Gremlins.) Movies have begotten sequels more than ten years later. The Color of Money—sequel to The Hustler—comes to mind, and yes I thought of that example before the latest Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

So, why can’t we fast-forward from 1990 and have a twenty-something-year-later sequel?
