Facebook apps are getting ridiculous.

Farmville, Petville, Zoo-something, send a TARDIS, click here if you want to high five someone, Snow Ball Fight, etc. They are all ridiculous, and seem to solely be usable as timesinks. Which, in and of itself, is fine. But some of them are actually starting to implement pay strategies (“click here to buy more Pet $$!”), and that’s when, in my mind, the line is crossed from “oh that’s kind of cute” to “oh you can just go to hell.”

So, before the latest Harry Potter film (which is discussed at length in two podcasts), there was a trailer for the latest Roland Emmerich assault on the senses, 2012. (click here to watch the trailer). I leaned over to my significant other and said “It looks like they couldn’t decide what disaster movie to make, so they just said ‘Eff this, ALL OF THEM!’”

Little did we know at that time, how close to the end of the world we’re apparently coming right now.

death

Celebrity deaths, as a whole, don’t really effect me. The recent spate of news-worthy passings has meant nothing to me, beyond two reactions: A) “Wow, I didn’t know s/he’d been sick.” and B) “Wow, this seems a drastic media overreaction.” David Carradine, Ed MacMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson… they were all celebrities, yes. But they were also PEOPLE. And, believe it or not, people die every day, every minute. And most of them are not famous.

But still, I understand WHY people get so emotional. (more…)

Chuck BruteI don’t know why, but I’ve become obsessed with this online “game” called My Brute. It’s essentially an automated rock-paper-scissors contest, in which you, the user/creator, have no control over your character except who they next fight. But I’ll be DAMNED if I don’t go a day without logging on and getting in my three Arena battles allotted.

(For those interested, and in the interest of full disclosure [because I am all about transparency {as it were}], my Brute is named Deathface McGee, and here is his home: http://deathface-mcgee.mybrute.com Come say hello!)

You gain experience, earn new weapons and skills, gain proficiency in three areas (strength, speed, agility), and can even earn attack pets, like dogs, wolves, or bears. That’s right: BEARS. Your own attack bear. Totally great, right?

But don’t just take my word for it. Go ahead and click through this here link and create your own little fightin’ bastard.

If you make one, or if you already have a Brute, go ahead and share it by leaving a comment. Maybe you’ll get some interesting fights out of it.

THERE IS NO FEAR IN THIS DOJO. THERE IS NO MERCY IN THIS DOJO.

POST SCRIPT: I like to make up movie titles for every day of fighting I go through, because I am a giant nerd and easily amused. Hence: post title. Come up with some of your own, and share with the class, children!

The Chemicals Between Them

Chemistry is a funny thing. In one respect, it is supremely predictable; mix this chemical with that one, and you will get this result/reaction. But in others, it is amazingly unpredictable. Take for example, three films released over the past month: X-Men: Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, and Terminator: Salvation. Each are special effects filled genre films, essentially sequels, attempting to cash-in on the built-in fanbase and name recognition, released in the prime summer blockbuster season. Each, in its own way, is a mix of certain chemicals. Yet the results have been far far different for each. Let us look closer, shall we?
